The KSh 2.2 trillion (US$16 billion) investment demonstrates investor confidence in Kenya and the SEZ programme’s role in attracting major industries, creating jobs and expanding local value addition.

With a planned capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, the integrated complex will include a 1,000MW power plant and facilities for manufacturing plastics, fertilisers and chemicals. As announced at the ceremony, the project is expected to generate 60,000 direct jobs.
